South and Central American carriers offer daily service between San Jose and all Central American capital cities. Lacsa, the Costa Rican carrier is part of Groupo Taca, the major airline servicing the Central American area.

 

1 hour and 30 minutes from Liberia, and Liberia International Airport

 

35 minutes from Nicoya, the cultural and business capital of Guanacaste.

 

45 minutes from Ostional Refuge, most famous for the nesting of turtles.

From San Jose, drive north on the Pan american/Inter american Highway to the junction with route 18 (just past Limonal). Continue there to river Tempi and cross the new bridge "La Amistad" or Puente Tempisque. Continue on  to Nicoya. From Nicoya take route 150 to Samara approximately 38 km / 24 miles.  Please note that roads are not always well marked with route numbers, so look for signs with city/town names. A quaint little town, Samara lies at the foot of a steep hill. The main road here leads straight into town and ends at the stunning Playa Samara or Samara Beach. You will find many affordable hotels and restaurants located here.
